How the 90/180 Rule Actually Works
The window rolls
The 180-day window is not fixed to a calendar year โ it moves with every entry. On any given day, look back 180 days; that is your window.
Count days inside
Only days you are physically present in the Schengen area within the rolling 180-day window count toward your 90-day allowance.
Days expire
As the window rolls forward, old days fall off the back and you regain them. The grey area in the calculator above are days that no longer count.
Exit day counts as a full day in some interpretations; we count it as used. Always confirm with your consulate for borderline cases.
Common Questions
Does the day I enter count?
Yes. Your entry day counts as day 1, and your exit day also counts as a used day. A 5-day trip uses 5 days, not 4.
What if I have a residence permit or long-stay visa?
Days under a residence permit or national visa (Type D) do not count toward the 90/180 limit. This tool only tracks visa-free or Type C stay days.
Is this tool official?
No. It performs transparent date arithmetic on the published 90/180 rule. Always verify with your embassy or consulate before booking non-refundable travel.
Can I save my trips?
